Muhammad (PBUH) is not their role model: Much in the guidance of the Prophet (PBUH) contained love and warned against intimidating Muslims, even as a joke, in accordance with the sanctity of Muslim blood and to prevent harm from befalling them, even unintentionally. Here is evidence against the Kharijites and extremists who defile the sanctity of Muslim blood and terrorize Muslims, even while they worship in masjids. The companions were travelling with the Prophet (PBUH). When they stopped to rest, one companion fell asleep. Some of them then went to wake him by throwing the reigns on his body, whereupon he awoke frightened. The Prophet (PBUH) then said, “It is not permissible for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim”. Narrated by Abu Dawood.

Ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Whosoever terrifies a believer, Allah will not secure him from the fears on the Day of Resurrection.” Narrated by al-Tabrani.

The Prophet (PBUH) also forbade even pointing a weapon toward a Muslim saying, “No one shall point a weapon toward his or her brother, for he knows not whether the devil will possess his hand and he then finds himself in a pit in the Hellfire.” Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim. He emphasized the gravity of such action, even when done jokingly saying, “Whoever points a weapon toward his brother, the angels curse him, even if it his blood brother or cousin.” Narrated by Muslim. Imam al-Qurtubi comments on these hadiths, “The Prophet’s (PBUH) curse of those who pointed with their weapons is evidence of its prohibition, whether in earnest or jokingly. The curse on those who do so intentionally is evident because he seeks to kill or harm a Muslim, both of which are major sins. As for doing so jokingly, it intimidates Muslims which is prohibited because it is a path that leads to harm and death.” Imam al-Nawawi also commented, “The hadith emphasizes the sanctity of Muslims, and prohibits their intimidating and exposure to harm. The words of the Prophet (PBUH), ‘even if it his blood brother or cousin’ further emphasizes the prohibition. This applies to both the accused and non-accused, as a joke or in earnest, because terrorizing Muslims is forbidden in all cases and may lead to bloodshed.” Such teachings are in sharp contrast to the guidance of the Prophet (PBUH) who commit atrocities daily in the name of the Prophet of mercy and the name of the religion of mercy.
